The Sweetest Product Shoot

There’s something special about a boardwalk dessert shop—the mix of salty ocean air, the buzz of happy customers, and, of course, the irresistible scent of something sweet in the air. My recent product shoot for Sweet Tooth in Asbury Park, NJ was a feast for the senses, filled with vibrant colors, rich textures, and some of the most drool-worthy treats I’ve ever photographed.

The Cookies & Cream was particularly exceptional.

Specializing in decadent milkshakes, sipping chocolates, cheesecake pops, and creative fruity drinks, Sweet Tooth is all about indulgence, and its already making a splash as a recent addition to the vibrant Asbury Park scene. Every treat is crafted to be as fun as it is flavorful, making them the perfect subject for a photo shoot. From treat-topped shakes dripping with chocolate to cheesecake pops coated in just about anything one could imagine, our goal was to capture the rich details, bold personality, and broad creative bandwidth of each dessert.

To bring out the full visual appeal of their menu, we focused on bright, clear lighting inside a white light tent so as to really accentuate the striking pops of color each dessert offered. We also played with different angles—some close-ups to emphasize texture and detail, and some wider shots to showcase the broader array of options one might be able to conjure up in the shop. The biggest challenge? Not wanting to take a bite out of everything before we finished shooting!

Where to even begin . . .

One of the most exciting moments was preparing to capture their signature cheesecake pops. Each individual cake is coated by literally dipping the whole thing into one of FIVE unique chocolate fountains with everything ranging from your classic dark, to Dubai Chocolate with pistachio. We played around with different combinations of coating, drizzle, and toppings to create some really unique and appealing combinations of color and texture for the kind of mouthwatering shot that practically invites customers to take a bite. Another favorite was setting the scene for the individual milkshake shots. I experimented with framing each product with its own toppings, to bring a little life to the scene. Or perhaps that was just a convenient excuse to snack on some cookies in between shots.

Product photography isn’t just about making food look good—I mean, for Sweet Tooth it already looked better than good. It’s about showcasing the joy and indulgence that comes with every sip and bite, and letting your customers in on a small preview of the experience that awaits them when they step off that hot summer boardwalk and enter into your cool, sanctum of sweetness.

I love working with brands that are passionate about their products, and this shoot was a perfect example of how great visuals can make a delicious impact. If your brand is looking for high-quality, scroll-stopping product photography, let’s chat—I’d love to bring your vision to life!
